the Woman Behind the Site
Dr. Desta, PhD, MS, (she/they) is a Black, Queer graduate psychologist who works within a women’s clinic at an academic medical center. Clinically, her interests include reproductive mental health, sexual wellness, chronic pain/health management, and stress/trauma associated with systematic oppression and discrimination. Their primary research interests focus on population health and how social determinants of health affect treatment outcomes for individuals with marginalized identities receiving services. Desta was also a co-lecturer and lecturer teaching human sexuality and ethics, respectively.

In addition to research and clinical care, they are involved in community outreach efforts and collaborations to increase the accessibility of mental health services. She is also a consultant, speaker, and educator who has dedicated their work to creating a more inclusive and equitable environment to better support providers, trainees, clinical staff, and patients.
